Sick of cold - cold made me sick

I know it's an old wives tail - but I'm believing it today.  All this cold weather (and burning the candle at both ends) and I'm coming down with a cold - boo!
I'm off with my airborne, Zicam and some chicken noodle (yes, from a red & white can comfort food ) then hot shower and bed!

Lent idea - 40 Bags in 40 Days

Every year I attempt to give something up.  Very much like New Years resolutions I usually fail and then there is guilt with the failure.

This year I've decided to take part in the 40 Bags for 40 days challenge I saw on Facebook.
The basics are you Declutter and find a bag per day of lent and donate to those in need.
Items should be in good useable shape - (not garbage, no one wants trash)

Be ruthless, do you really need 4 veggie peelers? Or 4 white turtlenecks? 8 new boxes of crayons because they were 10/$1 in August and you needed 1 or 2?  Go through every closet - read a devotional of your choice before, or say the rosary, or just give a prayer of thanksgiving that you are fortunate enough to have extras to pass along to those without.

What if you get to day 30 and realize you can't Declutter any more? Pull out your coupons and raid your charitable donations envelope - pick up toothpaste, deoderant, bath soap bars, shampoo, detergent, toilet paper - items that WIC coupons and food-stamp cards rarely cover.  How about boxed cereal and shelf stable milk, tuna, crackers. Each bag counts.  I already know our minister is going to Haiti in March - I'm collecting items they are taking with them, children's chewable vitamins, prenatal vitamins, Tylenol, Imodium, tums & pregger tests (dollar store cashier gives odd looks at you when you buy 10) I have 2 paper grocery bags in the living room filling up (that's 2 days)

I'm off to a good start - I've got 3 bags of outgrown clothes from the youngest, 1 bag of children's books, 1 bag of business clothes that I shrank out of. These items are all going to a women's shelter in a small city near my kids school on Monday.

Back at it - being $uper careful!

Whew!  Back from big  project related travel.  Now it's time to tighten those purse strings.  I do keep them snug, but now they're getting cinched tighter.

My weekend will include laundry (frugally air dried on racks), home pedicure (my preference), menu planning (just need to buy milk).  The menu planning will take a chunk of time, unearthing what is in the chest freezer, but I want to keep expenditures down over the next 2 months.  I'm sure with some creativity it is totally possible - might not be gourmet but will be tasted and healthy & already paid for.

The first half of the week will find me: wrapping up this project and putting it to bed, dropping off 3 bags of donations (outgrown kid clothes). Second half of the week will have me prepping home meals for my time away at a 'girls weekend' with some old friends, planned & paid for ages ago.  Looking forward to it.

Best get off my rear & get it in gear - I don't see these things happening by themselves ;-)

Snow Day Savings

Another snow day here.  I was happy for the extra sleep.  I've been sleeping like crap for the last few months - getting older kinda sucks - but I'm thankful I only have hot flashes at night I guess.

Anyhow, today's snow day meant savings here.
1st no commuting costs - yay! No school or sports driving
2nd leftovers eaten for lunch & planned crockpot dinner (all pantry/freezer)
3rd laundry caught up
4th mending caught up on - fingers are tired from hand sewing buttons & little seam fixes

Nothing huge, but all add up

Hello Snowflakes

Woke up to 8 inches this morning and it's still falling.
That of course means another day home for us.  Most schools made the decision last night.
The temptation is great to snuggle up in my warm bed and do nothing.
I will finish my coffee and start doing some paperwork & laundry though - I always have plenty of that waiting.

Bummer is I can't get out for my freebie Patriots Won coffee at Dunkin Donuts.

Enjoy your snow day CT & beyond
